What to Expect
Transport
Volunteers will be required to provide their own transport to and from West Wyalong.
Accommodation
There are a number of reasonably priced accommodation options in West Wyalong
On The Day
Saturday: volunteers will have the opportunity to attend a training session delivered by Graeme Tonkin from the National Malleefowl Recovery Group. The first half of the training will be held indoors (at the Colonial Motor Inn, West Wyalong) and provide participants with information about why we monitor and what data is required. Following this we will head outdoors to have a go at monitoring a Malleefowl mound.
Sunday: volunteers will be provided with their own monitoring equipment and given a list of mounds to monitor.
Participants will require long sleeve shirts and pants, enclosed shoes, hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.

National Malleefowl Forum 2026

Researchers, students, government and industry representatives, indigenous groups and volunteers are encouraged to mark your calendars for the eighth National Malleefowl Forum.
The Forum will present the latest research and progress on malleefowl conservation, including a mix of Forum presentations, Poster presentations and Plenary sessions across the range of this iconic and much-loved species.
